MR2
Only Magazine Project Mark One - photo diary
The magazine has acquired its first project car, an 87 mk1b, in need of
a little TLC, it had a little prang a couple of years ago at the front
that has been partially repaird but needs a bit more straightening, needs
the usual panel replacements for rust, sill panels, rear panel, etc, our
plan is to set the car up on a budget for track days.
Plans
include a big brake conversion, suspension set-up to get the best handling,
stripped out, roll cage etc etc, all help advice and any bits people
have are all gladly received, we will be covering each step of the cars
progress both here and in each issue of MR2 Only magazine, please email
steveb@mr2only.com and cc to andyb@mr2only.com and skinthespin@mr2only.com if
you have any advice or parts.

Sunday
14th January 2007 - We collect Kirsty's Mk1 T-bar that she has kindly donated
for parts for the MR2 Only Project car, as the car still has a valid MOT,
stood for six weeks the car is reluctant to start, fails to jump start
due to a dodgy earth, handbrakes stuck on, but after a litle coaxing, frees
off, and second time luck we bump starter her, and she ran like a dream
on the journey from Warrington to Stoke, after a bit of driving around
for fun, we then towed the project mk1 with a fixed bar (as it had no brakes)
to our unit about 6 miles away, where both cars are now securely stored
in the dry where we can begin stripping, swapping and surveying the work
needing to be done.First job will be to cut out the old sills and weld
in the new ones, and repair the bottom of the rear arches.
There will be some left-over parts up for grabs sometime
in the near future for giveaway or swaps (just cover the cost of postage) anyone
interested in any bits please email steveb@mr2only.com
Our new replacement sill skin panels have also arrived kindly sponsored
by Craig Mallinson of CM Fabrications

January 2007 - MR2 Only Project Mk1 (1st car) DECLARED DOOMED
Its a sad weekend, after spending much of this afternoon stripping away
panels, we knew that the mk1 had a front end knock, but didnt realise the
extent of the damage underneath, seems that the drivers side chassis end
is bent inwards and creased, and much of the panels underneath are pretty
twisted, so seems that replacing the sills are the least of our worries,
so the car is destined to be stripped for bits.
No we will have to sit back and weigh up the options, do we use the T/bar
as a track car project, although we would of preferred a coupe, there is
quite a lot of work to be done on the T/bar, electrical trouble with earth,
two front wings, rear arches, possibly drivers side rear quarter. Or do
we think again, and look for a straight and more solid coupe, maybe unfinished
project, or something with engine trouble, as we have two good engines,
two donor cars, sills and big brake upgrade. I don't know, below are the
photos of the twisted mess we were met with after removing the front end
yesterday, my favourite piece is the the little home made bracket holding
on the whole of the centre section, where the weld has broken on both sides.
Im off to cry again now....and ring the MR2 Anonymous, Im trying to give
the damn things up!!. Any help, suggestions, or support, please email steveb@mr2only.com
